Working pattern: Hybrid - minimum three days per week in the Edinburgh office

An established UK engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced sustainability professional to join its Edinburgh team at Associate or Associate Director level.

This is a senior, technically focused role for someone with strong IES VE modelling expertise who can lead complex building-performance projects, develop energy and sustainability strategies, and provide trusted advice to clients and design teams.

You will play an important role in growing the sustainability offering in Edinburgh while remaining actively involved in project delivery.

The role

You will:

  • Lead building-performance, energy-modelling and sustainability projects using IES VE
  • Develop, maintain, interrogate and validate detailed energy models
  • Undertake dynamic simulation modelling, overheating assessments and daylight analysis
  • Produce operational-energy, net-zero-carbon and wider sustainability strategies
  • Use modelling outputs to influence building form, fabric, systems and performance from the earliest design stages
  • Lead technical discussions with developers, architects, engineers, investors and other senior stakeholders
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring high-quality delivery against programme and budget
  • Support and mentor members of the sustainability team
  • Prepare fee proposals, bids and client presentations
  • Help develop client relationships and identify new opportunities in Edinburgh and across the wider UK business
  • Contribute to whole-life carbon, embodied carbon and sustainable-design services

About you

You will have:

  • Advanced, hands-on experience using IES VE
  • A strong understanding of building physics, energy performance and low-carbon design
  • Experience delivering complex energy-modelling and sustainability projects within the built environment
  • The ability to turn technical modelling outputs into practical design recommendations
  • Experience advising senior clients and multidisciplinary design teams
  • A track record of managing projects, workloads and junior team members
  • Strong knowledge of net-zero-carbon strategies and relevant UK building regulations
  • An appropriate degree in sustainability, building services, engineering, building physics or a related discipline

Experience with whole-life carbon assessments, embodied carbon, BREEAM, WELL, LEED, NABERS or circular-economy principles would be advantageous. Chartered status and relevant energy-assessor accreditations would also be welcomed.

Why consider this opportunity?

This is an opportunity to take a senior position within a growing sustainability consultancy, working on varied projects and helping shape the development of its Edinburgh capability.

The role offers:

  • £80,000 salary
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Senior-level responsibility and influence
  • A strong pipeline of sustainability and building-performance projects
  • The opportunity to lead and develop others
  • Hybrid working, with a minimum of three days each week in the Edinburgh office

Please note: Regular attendance at the Edinburgh office is an essential part of this position. Candidates must be able to work from the office at least three days per week.
