Consultant Psychological Profession Lead

We are looking for a Psychology Profession with a passion and drive for making a real difference in this NENC Regional System Workforce Lead Role.

The role is a part‑time (4 sessions, 15 hours a week) position within TEWV, funded until September 2028. It will be hosted within TEWV as employer but managed jointly by the NENC ICB. The successful candidate will work alongside the Chief Psychological Professions Officers, Heads of Psychological Professions, and the ICB Transformation Programme.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior clinician who is committed to delivering high quality, safe and effective care across voluntary, care and health sectors during a period of significant change. The postholder will lead the development of the Psychological Professions Workforce within the NENC region and shape how psychological approaches are accessed across the ICB system.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Head of Programme Transformation at the ICB, Psychological Professions Leads and a wide range of stakeholders to develop strategic influence for the Psychological Professions. This includes shaping national initiatives to increase access to psychological approaches in health and care.

Right to work in the UK is required. Note: as the role is part‑time, the starting salary will not meet the threshold for sponsorship under the Health and Care (Skilled Worker) visa.

Qualifications

  • For Applied Psychologists: postgraduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical/counselling/forensic psychology accredited by the BPS and HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Post‑doctoral training in one or more specialised areas of psychological practice.
  • Training in clinical supervision and supervision of doctoral trainee psychologists.
  • Training in coordinating complex packages of care, assessing and managing risk.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • For Psychological Therapists: RMN/RNLD, AHP or Social work core qualification and a Master’s level qualification.
  • Registration with a professional regulatory body (HCPC, GMC, NMC or Social Work England) or other professional body.
  • Eligibility for accreditation in one of the four Governed Psychological Therapies.
  • Training in leadership.

Experience

  • Substantial experience as a qualified highly specialist applied psychologist or psychological therapist across the full life course, clinical severity and care settings.
  • Full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care as lead professional within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Liaison and joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies.
  • Teaching, training, clinical supervision and field supervision for doctoral theses.
  • Undertaking and supervising research and service development projects.
  • Project management of quality and service improvement initiatives.
  • Providing clinical and professional leadership to other qualified and non‑qualified members of the psychological professions.

Knowledge

  • Doctoral level knowledge of evidence‑based practice relevant to the role.
  • Risk assessment and risk management.
  • Clinical governance.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health and its implications for practice.
  • Audit and research methodology.
  • Social inclusion agenda.
  • Knowledge of the care of difficult to treat groups such as dual diagnoses, additional disabilities or severely challenging behaviour.
  • Quality assurance and governance agenda.
  • Models of management and leadership.
  • The Trust's Quality Improvement System.
