Control Panel Builder

An established engineering and manufacturing business is looking for an experienced Control Panel Builder to join its electrical team. This is a hands-on, workshop-based position involving the construction and wiring of bespoke, low-volume control panels for industrial machinery. The role would suit an experienced Panel Builder who enjoys varied work, takes pride in the quality of their workmanship and is confident working from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings. The Role As a Control Panel Builder, you will be responsible for the electrical assembly, wiring and testing of a variety of bespoke control panels and enclosures. Key responsibilities include: * Building and wiring low-voltage control panels from 110–600V AC, single and three-phase, and 24V DC systems * Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical layouts and Bills of Materials * Installing and terminating circuit protection devices, relays, solenoid valves, contactors, inverter drives and soft starters * Wiring PLC and HMI systems, including Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley and Siemens equipment * Building and wiring junction boxes, HMI enclosures, MCCs and multi-door control cabinets * Using hand and power tools to fabricate and assemble panel components * Measuring, marking out and working with stainless steel, GRP, mild steel and galvanised steel * Selecting and routing cables, including crimping and ferrule termination * Carrying out continuity testing and basic functional checks * Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop environment * Working closely with design and test engineers to ensure panels are built to the required specification The Person The successful candidate will ideally have: * At least 4 years' experience in electrical control panel building * Strong ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical layout drawings * Experience with electrical wiring, crimping, ferrule termination and cable routing * Good knowledge of both AC and DC control systems * Excellent attention to detail and pride in the quality of workmanship * Competence using workshop hand and power tools * A good understanding of electrical safety and safe working practices * The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team Desirable Experience The following would be advantageous: Formal electrical qualifications Completed electrical apprenticeship Experience using EPLAN Experience interpreting detailed Bills of Materials Previous experience within industrial automation, machinery or manufacturing environments Knowledge of electrical testing and panel safety checks Career Development This role offers excellent opportunities for career progression, with potential development into areas including: Panel Shop Team Leader / Supervisor Electrical Assembly & Test Technician Controls Engineer Testing Engineer Electrical Design Technician Commissioning Engineer
