About the role
What if your next role gave you the chance to work across the UK and overseas, bring complex machinery to life and have a real say in a commissioning department that’s only just starting to grow?
If you’re a Commissioning Engineer who likes variety, problem solving and being trusted to get on with things, this could be worth a look.
If you’re looking for something where you’re in the same place every day, probably not…
You’ll be working alongside a manager who’s been with the business for 11 years and still genuinely loves what he does. He knows the machinery and customers inside out so you’ll have someone experienced to learn from while still being given the space to develop and do things your way.
Your time will be roughly 60/40 between the workshop in Nelson and customer sites. In the workshop, you’ll commission machinery and make sure it’s ready to go before it leaves. On site, you’ll be fault finding, getting production lines running and dealing with whatever comes your way.
And there’s plenty of opportunity to see the world while you’re doing it. UK trips are usually a couple of days, while overseas projects tend to be two to four weeks, with plenty of notice. You could find yourself working in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan or across Europe.
To get stuck straight in, you’ll need at least three years’ commissioning experience, a genuine 50/50 mechanical and electrical skill set and the confidence to fault find Siemens, Allen Bradley or Mitsubishi PLCs independently.
You’ll also need to be comfortable with pneumatics. Experience in food, pharma, paper or packaging would be useful but if you’re coming from a different industry and you’re good at what you do, that isn’t necessarily a blocker.
What matters most is that you can stay calm when things don’t go to plan, communicate well with customers and enjoy figuring things out for yourself.
The commissioning team is growing from four to six engineers, so there’s also the opportunity to progress into a senior, supervisory, coordination or more PLC focused position as you build your experience.
If you want a role where you can work on interesting machinery, travel, keep learning and have a genuine opportunity to shape where your career goes next, drop me a email or give me a call on (phone number removed)
