The Opportunity


A growing land and development consultancy is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager / Associate to lead the technical delivery of residential and mixed-use development projects across the UK.


This is a senior appointment offering a genuine pathway to Director level, providing the opportunity to shape technical delivery, support business growth and influence the long-term direction of the business.


You will act as the senior technical lead across multiple infrastructure-led developments, managing design coordination, statutory approvals, infrastructure delivery and stakeholder engagement from pre-construction through to the commencement of works on site.


Role Overview


You will take ownership of the technical and project management functions across a diverse portfolio of developments, including:

  • Strategic residential infrastructure
  • Mixed residential and commercial schemes
  • Pre-construction technical coordination
  • Infrastructure agreements and statutory approvals

This role combines hands-on project delivery with leadership responsibility, commercial input and client relationship management.


Key Responsibilities

Technical & Design Coordination

  • Act as the primary technical lead for clients and multidisciplinary consultant teams.
  • Lead infrastructure design development and manage statutory approvals, including S278, S38, S104 and S184 agreements.
  • Oversee the design and coordination of roads, drainage, utilities, earthworks and associated infrastructure.
  • Chair technical meetings and coordinate engineering and design teams.
  • Prepare and manage technical documentation, including infrastructure delivery plans and design strategies.


Project & Programme Management

  • Develop and manage project execution plans and technical delivery programmes.
  • Coordinate approved designs with client, contractor and delivery teams.
  • Support contractor procurement activities and ensure compliance with technical standards.
  • Chair project meetings and maintain robust governance and reporting procedures.
  • Monitor programme performance and proactively manage project risks.


Cost & Risk Management

  • Provide technical input into cost planning and value optimisation.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate technical and programme risks.
  • Advise clients on technical variations and their commercial implications.
  • Support the successful delivery of projects within agreed budgets and timescales.


Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong working relationships with local authorities, statutory undertakers, consultants and contractors.
  • Present technical updates clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders.
  • Resolve design issues and coordinate technical solutions to maintain programme momentum.
  • Ensure effective communication across all project teams throughout the development lifecycle.


Business Growth & Leadership

  • Support business development initiatives and strengthen existing client relationships.
  • Mentor and develop junior members of the technical project management team.
  • Contribute to the strategic growth of the business and expansion of the technical service offering.
  • Promote best practice and drive continuous improvement across project delivery.


Candidate Profile - Essential

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (or a related discipline), or an equivalent Project Management qualification.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in technical project management within residential development, infrastructure or land development.
  • Strong understanding of UK planning processes and technical approval procedures.
  • Experience managing infrastructure agreements, including S278, S38, S104 and related approvals.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary consultant teams.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.


Desirable

  • Experience working with residential developers or land promoters.
  • Knowledge of NEC and/or JCT contract suites.
  • Experience producing bespoke technical documentation and reports.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Project and/or BIM platforms.
