Are you an accomplished journalist and editor who can shape a compelling business news agenda and confidently represent a leading media brand in front of an audience?
This is a rare opportunity to lead Midlands Business Insider, the region’s leading business magazine and multi-platform media brand. You will set its editorial direction, lead a talented team and become a visible presence within the Midlands business community.
It is a genuinely varied role. One day you could be commissioning breaking news or editing an in-depth magazine feature; the next, chairing a senior-level round table, interviewing a business leader on stage or hosting a prestigious awards event.
The role
Leading a small editorial team, including a deputy editor, and working closely with the daily news team, you will:
- Set the editorial direction and agenda for Midlands Business Insider.
- Commission, edit and write authoritative news, analysis, interviews, features and flagship reports.
- Cover established Insider markets including Dealmaking, Commercial Property and Manufacturing.
- Manage and mentor journalists, maintaining consistently high editorial standards.
- Identify the people, issues and trends shaping the Midlands business community.
- Act as a credible and engaging public face for Insider across the region.
Events are an important part of the Insider brand. You will help shape a busy programme ranging from business breakfasts and senior-level round tables to conferences and awards.
You will develop topical themes, secure influential speakers and contributors, chair discussions, conduct live interviews and host larger events. Working closely with editorial, events and commercial colleagues, you will ensure Insider’s content and events remain relevant, authoritative and commercially successful.
About you
We are looking for an experienced journalist and editor with:
- A strong track record in news, magazine or multi-platform business journalism.
- Excellent news judgement, writing, commissioning and editing skills.
- Experience of managing, mentoring or developing journalists.
- The confidence and credibility to engage with senior business leaders.
- A strong understanding of the Midlands business landscape and an established regional network or the drive to build one quickly.
- The ability to manage competing deadlines and make sound editorial decisions independently.
You do not need to be an established awards host, but you should be a confident and engaging communicator. You may have developed these skills by hosting or contributing to podcasts, creating and presenting video content, conducting broadcast interviews, chairing panel discussions or speaking at live events. xwzovoh
An NCTJ qualification or equivalent is preferred.
If you are ready to lead an influential media title and bring the Midlands business conversation to life in print, online and on stage, we would like to hear from you.
