Quality Lead - Manufacturing

This role is ideal for a hands‑on, influential Quality Leader who thrives in a fast‑paced, technically complex environment and who can confidently drive quality excellence from raw materials through to finished goods.
About the Role
As the site Quality Manager, you will take full ownership of the Quality Management System (QMS) in line with BS EN ISO 9001:2015, ensuring compliance, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across the business. You will define and deliver the company’s quality strategy, lead internal and external audits, manage supplier performance, and act as a key interface with customers on all quality‑related matters. This is a highly visible role requiring strong leadership, technical depth, and the ability to influence at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Management & Compliance
Maintain, develop, and continually improve the QMS in accordance with ISO 9001:2015.
Lead the organisation through third‑party ISO audits, ensuring full compliance and identifying areas of excellence.
Conduct internal audits, process audits, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
Ensure compliance with all relevant product standards, regulations, and customer‑specific requirements.
Supplier Management
Instigate and lead supplier audits, ensuring robust quality performance and adherence to specifications.
Manage FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests) with customer representatives.
Act as the primary point of contact for customer quality issues, satisfaction monitoring, and performance reviews.
Support the creation of Quality Plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and test documentation.
Process Control
Oversee inspection and testing procedures from raw materials to finished goods.
Ensure non‑conformances are investigated using structured problem‑solving tools (8D, 5‑Why, Ishikawa).
Drive SPC utilisation and process capability improvements across manufacturing.
Manage calibration of all site test and measurement equipment.
Continuous Improvement & KPI Leadership
Lead company‑wide continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Lean principles.
Monitor and analyse quality KPIs, identifying trends and driving targeted improvement actions.
Reduce defect rates, non‑conformances, and Cost of Quality Events (COQE).
Prepare and present data for management quality reviews, highlighting risks and improvement opportunities.
Work closely with Sales, Projects, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to resolve quality issues and support customer requirements.
Provide daily guidance to QC Operatives and act as a key contributor in a time‑critical, high‑complexity environment.
Build strong internal and external relationships to support the company’s quality objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
Graduate‑level education or equivalent technical background.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in a Quality Management role.
Fully conversant with ISO 9001; working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 desirable.
Strong, hands‑on approach to quality with experience from Sales Order through to product delivery.
Proficient in Windows‑based software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).
Excellent communicator able to influence at all levels internally and externally.
Demonstrable experience with Lean, 8D problem solving, SPC, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Strong leadership capability with the ability to set strategy, drive change, and develop quality culture.
Membership of a recognised quality organisation is advantageous.
