The Opportunity
* Senior role within a growing bookkeeping and accounts function
* Manage a varied client portfolio with responsibility for accurate financial reporting
* Opportunity to work closely with senior stakeholders and contribute to process improvements
* Involvement in mentoring junior staff and supporting wider team development
* Ideal for an experienced bookkeeper seeking progression within a client-focused practice
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of SME and owner-managed clients
* Maintain accurate financial records including ledgers, journals, and reconciliations
* Prepare and review VAT returns in line with compliance requirements
* Produce management accounts to support client decision-making
* Support the preparation of year-end accounts and liaise with senior accountants
* Act as a key point of contact for clients, resolving queries and providing guidance
* Utilise cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) to streamline processes
* Train and support junior team members where appropriate
* Identify opportunities to improve systems, efficiency, and client service delivery
Requirements
* Strong experience within a bookkeeping role in an accountancy practice
* Solid understanding of VAT, reconciliations, and financial reporting
* Experience managing client relationships and handling queries independently
* Proficient in Excel and cloud-based accounting software
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
* Strong communication skills with a client-focused approach
* Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
Desirable Skills
* AAT qualified or equivalent
* Experience producing management accounts
* Exposure to a varied client base including SMEs and property clients
* Experience supporting or mentoring junior staff
