Assistant Estimator

The Company Our client is a highly regarded specialist subcontractor operating across groundworks, RC frames, basements, infrastructure, rail, and aviation projects throughout London and the South East. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are now seeking an ambitious Assistant Estimator to join their pre-construction team. The Role This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move into estimating from either a Quantity Surveying or Site Engineering background. The company is open to considering: * An Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to transition into pre-construction and estimating * A Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer looking to move off site into an office-based role Working alongside experienced senior estimators and pre-construction professionals, you will gain exposure to tendering and pricing major groundwork, RC frame, and civil engineering packages across London. Key Responsibilities * Assisting with the preparation of competitive tender submissions * Reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documentation * Measuring quantities and assisting with take-offs * Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations * Supporting cost planning and pricing exercises * Assisting with value engineering and commercial reviews * Liaising with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams * Supporting bid submissions and tender presentations * Maintaining accurate estimating records and documentation Requirements * Previous experience within the construction industry * Background as either: * Assistant Quantity Surveyor, OR * Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer * Strong interest in pre-construction and estimating * Good understanding of construction methodologies * Excellent numerical and analytical skills * Strong communication and organisational abilities * Proficient in Microsoft Excel and construction-related software * Experience within groundworks, RC frame, civils, or concrete structures would be highly advantageous * Ambitious and eager to progress within a growing business What’s on Offer * Opportunity to join one of London’s leading specialist subcontractors * Clear pathway into estimating and pre-construction * Ongoing mentoring, training, and career development * Exposure to major flagship construction projects * Competitive salary and benefits package * Supportive and collaborative team environment * Long-term progression opportunities within a growing business If you are looking to transition into estimating and build a long-term career within pre-construction, this is an excellent opportunity to join a respected contractor with a strong reputation and exciting pipeline of work
