Cover Supervisor (Science Specialism) - Lancaster Location: Lancaster, Lancashire Start Date: ASAP Duration: Temporary (Until July 2026), with a strong view to extend from September to December 2026 Salary: £117.25 - 144.60 per day Contract Type: Full-time, Mainstream Secondary The Opportunity Are you a confident individual looking to gain valuable classroom experience, or a Science graduate seeking a stepping stone into teaching? A supportive and high-achieving mainstream secondary school in Lancaster is looking for a Cover Supervisor to join their team immediately. While you will cover a variety of subjects across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, there is a strong emphasis on delivering Science cover lessons. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a Science background or a Science degree to utilise their knowledge to keep pupils engaged and on-track. The role runs until the end of the academic year, with a planned extension into the next term (September-December). Key Responsibilities Classroom Management: Oversee pre-set Science lessons (and other subjects when required), ensuring students remain focused, safe, and on-task. Deliver Content: Present instructions and learning materials clearly to pupils, answering basic questions-particularly in Science subjects-to support their understanding. Maintain Environment: Implement the school's behaviour policy consistently and foster a positive learning atmosphere. Feedback: Collect completed work at the end of the lesson and provide constructive feedback to the returning class teacher. What We Are Looking For Experience working with groups of children or young people (e.g., coaching, tutoring, camp leading, or prior school experience). A degree in a scientific discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) is highly desirable and an excellent option for this role. High emotional intelligence, confidence, and strong communication skills. Flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to a bustling school environment.
