About the role

An opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to take a lead role in New Product Introduction (NPI) and custom precision assembly development within a high-technology manufacturing environment. The role supports the design, development, and production of advanced electronic components and custom assemblies used in global manufacturing operations. You will work within a small engineering team, taking responsibility for both mechanical design and the introduction of new products into production. This position plays a key part in ensuring projects progress effectively, working closely with project management, manufacturing, and engineering teams to meet delivery targets. The role also involves technical communication with customers and collaboration with international sites, so flexibility in working hours and occasional travel is required. Key Responsibilities Lead a small team of design and manufacturing engineers within the NPI function Oversee NPI assembly processes for custom electronic and mechanical components Design mechanical components, jigs, fixtures, and tooling to support manufacture Support mechanical/electrical integration of assemblies Work closely with project managers to ensure milestones and delivery targets are met Provide technical updates and support to internal and external customers Participate in new product and process development from concept through to production transfer Support failure analysis and root cause investigations Assist with drawing control, documentation, and engineering change processes Contribute to costing and preparation of product quotations Undertake additional duties as reasonably required by the business Requirements Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering Strong hands-on engineering background with small component or precision assembly experience Experience in fabrication, assembly processes, and soldering techniques (desirable) Background in NPI, production engineering, or manufacturing engineering environments CAD proficiency (AutoCAD essential; SolidWorks or Fusion 360 advantageous) Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality Strong communication skills, including technical writing and reporting Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Collaborative, self-motivated, and willing to learn new skills Experience with coding or automation tools is an advantage Benefits Salary: £50,000 - £58,000 25 days annual leave plus UK public holidays Additional holiday entitlement after 5 and 10 years' service Holiday carry-over (up to 5 days) Pension scheme (subject to eligibility) Private healthcare scheme (subject to approval) Discretionary company sick pay (top-up to SSP) Flexible overtime policy (at management discretion) Company social events Standard employment policies including health & safety, grievance, and disciplinary procedures
