About the role
KMC Recruitment are working with a highly respected business within the hire industry to recruit a Depot Manager for their Reading operation.
This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of a busy depot operation, ensuring high standards across safety, service delivery, operational performance, and team management.
The business has an excellent reputation within the industry and is looking for someone who can lead from the front, drive standards, and create a positive, accountable depot culture. This isn’t a role for somebody who wants to hide in the office pretending spreadsheets fix operational problems. They don’t.

The Role
You’ll take full responsibility for the operational performance of the depot, ensuring equipment is prepared, maintained, and delivered to customers safely, efficiently, and on time.
Responsibilities will include:
* Managing the day-to-day running of the depot operation
* Leading and developing operational teams across workshop, yard, transport, and washbay functions
* Driving high standards across Health & Safety and compliance
* Monitoring depot performance, utilisation, and operational efficiencies
* Managing maintenance schedules, off-hires, repairs, and fleet availability
* Working closely with transport and operational teams to ensure customer expectations are met
* Supporting commercial performance and cost control across the depot
* Building a strong team culture with accountability and professionalism
* Ensuring housekeeping and presentation standards are maintained throughout the depot
* Supporting recruitment, training, and performance management within the team
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
* Previous experience within a Depot Manager or senior operational management role
* Background within plant hire, welfare hire, accommodation hire, tool hire, or a related operational environment
* Strong leadership and people management skills
* Good commercial awareness and operational understanding
* Ability to work within a fast-paced depot environment
* Strong understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities
Desirable:
* Experience managing welfare or accommodation fleet operations
* Engineering or mechanical understanding
* CPC qualification or transport knowledge
