Specialist Teaching Assistant - High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire - Complex Cognitive and Sensory Needs Join a specialist provision supporting learners aged 7-19 through personalised teaching, communication and independence programmes. Specialist Teaching Assistant vacancy in High Wycombe working with pupils aged 7-19 with complex cognitive, sensory, physical and communication needs. An established specialist education provision in High Wycombe requires a Specialist Teaching Assistant to work alongside experienced teaching staff supporting pupils with complex cognitive, sensory, physical and communication needs. This role is suited to candidates who understand that effective SEN support is highly personalised and who can consistently implement strategies designed around an individual pupil. Your Role Rather than simply assisting pupils to complete classroom tasks, you will contribute to a wider programme of development focused on communication, independence, wellbeing and preparation for adulthood. Responsibilities will include: Supporting personalised learning activities Working with pupils on communication and interaction Helping develop functional and practical skills Supporting sensory and emotional regulation Encouraging independence and appropriate decision-making Assisting with physical development and motor activities Supporting access to literacy and phonics Working with pupils individually and in small groups Following individualised strategies and guidance Liaising with teachers and other professionals Maintaining a safe, supportive and consistent environment Curriculum & Approaches The setting uses specialist curricula and approaches appropriate to pupils' individual needs. These include: EQUALS curriculum Focused on essential skills with meaningful application to pupils' future lives. ImPACTS curriculum Supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties through communication, cognitive, environmental control, social and emotional wellbeing and physical development. Additional approaches include: SCERTS Intensive Interaction Attention Autism Bucket Little Wandle Phonics Low Arousal Rebound Therapy Your Background You could be a strong match if you have worked as a: SEN Teaching Assistant Learning Support Assistant Teaching Assistant Specialist support worker Care worker PMLD support worker Autism support worker Behaviour or pastoral support professionalExperience with complex SEN is particularly valuable, but the ability to build trusting relationships, follow individual plans and remain patient and consistent is equally important.
