Are you looking to develop your career in criminal defence work while handling complex, high-profile motor crime cases? We are working with a leading national law firm seeking an ambitious Assistant Lawyer to join its highly regarded Crime & Regulatory team in Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced specialists in motor crime, regulatory investigations and inquests, supporting individuals and organisations through some of the most challenging circumstances they may face.


The Opportunity

You will join a specialist team that advises and represents corporate organisations and individuals involved in criminal, regulatory and Coronial investigations following serious workplace and road traffic incidents.


The team is often instructed immediately following an incident and provides support throughout the entire investigation and prosecution process, from police interviews through to court proceedings and inquests.


A significant proportion of the work involves defending motorists, including commercial and private drivers, in matters ranging from technical road traffic offences through to serious cases involving dangerous driving, fatal collisions and manslaughter allegations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting on complex motor crime and regulatory investigations
  • Attending client meetings, police stations, courts and client premises
  • Supporting clients during interviews under caution
  • Liaising with witnesses, experts, counsel and external agencies
  • Assisting with case preparation and progression from investigation to conclusion
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Gradually developing your own caseload with ongoing support and supervision


About You

We are keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • Experience in criminal law, either in private practice or a related legal environment
  • A genuine interest in motor crime and regulatory work
  • Strong communication and client care skills
  • The ability to manage sensitive and often challenging situations with professionalism and empathy
  • Police Station Accreditation (desirable but not essential)
  • A proactive and team-focused approach with a desire to develop their career within a specialist practice area


Salary & Benefits

  • Salary up to £52,000, dependent on experience and competency level
  • Attractive monthly bonus scheme
  • Full-time or a 4-day working week will be considered
  • Hybrid working model with regular attendance in the Birmingham office (minimum one day per week)

Location

This role is based in Birmingham. xwzovoh Candidates should be within a reasonable commuting distance and willing to attend the office, court hearings and police stations as required.
