Risk Consultant / Risk Manager
About the role
Risk Consultant / Risk Manager
National Grid – Great Grid Upgrade
£50,000–£70,000 + Paid Travel | Permanent
The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role.
Are you an experienced Risk Consultant or Risk Manager looking to work on one of the UK’s most significant energy infrastructure programmes?
We’re looking for risk professionals with around 3–7 years’ experience to provide risk management support across National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong core risk management experience who wants to gain exposure to a major, long-term infrastructure programme and continue developing their technical risk capabilities, including QSRA.
What will you be doing?
You’ll provide hands-on risk support to project teams, taking ownership of the day-to-day risk management process and working closely with stakeholders across the programme.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Chairing and facilitating risk meetings and workshops
- Working with project teams to identify, assess and manage risks
- Maintaining and reviewing project risk registers
- Challenging and supporting risk owners on mitigation actions
- Providing clear risk reporting and insight to support decision-making
- Building strong relationships with project and programme stakeholders
- Supporting the wider risk management process across a major infrastructure environment
- Developing your experience in Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA)
You don’t need to be a QSRA expert from day one. If you have strong risk fundamentals and want to develop your quantitative risk capability, there will be an opportunity to build this experience.
Location & working pattern
Initially, you’ll need to be in Birmingham around 3 days every two weeks, with the remainder working from home.
As the role develops, there will be the opportunity to work predominantly from home.
Importantly, required project travel is paid from your home, making this a particularly flexible opportunity for candidates based across the UK who are comfortable travelling to Birmingham when required.
What we’re looking for:
- Around 3–7 years’ risk management experience
- Strong project or programme risk management fundamentals
- Confidence chairing risk meetings and facilitating workshops
- Experience engaging and challenging stakeholders
- Experience maintaining risk registers and supporting mitigation activities
- Infrastructure, construction, utilities, energy or major-project experience would be beneficial
- An interest in developing further technical capability, particularly QSRA
Salary: £45,000–£70,000, depending on experience and level, plus paid project travel.
