Senior Civil Engineer working in the nuclear sector
Mission
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Engineer to take on the role of Contract Engineering Lead (CEL) for civil detailing activities. This position plays a critical role in delivering complex infrastructure projects, with a focus on civil structures and reinforcement detailing.
You will act as the technical authority for a detailing contract package, managing the full lifecycle of technical deliverables and ensuring alignment with project requirements, standards, and replication strategies.
Profile
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
* Act as the lead technical authority for civil detailing contracts
* Oversee and coordinate all L3 detailer submissions, ensuring robust technical surveillance
* Ensure all deliverables meet project standards and replication principles
* Serve as the primary technical interface between delivery partners and project management
Pre-Contract Activities
* Support tendering processes and perform technical assessments of supplier offers
* Define contract requirements, including technical specifications and surveillance programmes
* Engage early with suppliers and stakeholders to align on technical expectations
Post-Contract Delivery
* Lead the design process across gateway review phases
* Manage information transfer, collaborative design development, and technical support during modelling stages
* Chair and lead key technical review meetings and workshops
* Ensure consistency and technical compliance across all deliverables
Leadership of Technical Teams
* Coordinate and guide technical leads responsible for reviewing key deliverables, including:
* Information transfer models
* Master reference listings
* Detailing briefing packs
* Construction issue deliverables
* Support capability development and ensure alignment across multidisciplinary teams
Interface & Configuration Management
* Act as the key interface between project management and detailing teams
* Escalate risks, deviations, and non-conformances where necessary
* Support configuration management processes to ensure traceability and control of changes
Governance & Reporting
* Lead technical workshops, coordination meetings, and risk reviews
* Manage design risks in line with CDM regulations
* Produce regular technical reports and maintain oversight of design risk registers
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Proven leadership and coordination experience across multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Strong understanding of engineering design and detailing processes
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
* Ability to manage complex interfaces and resolve technical challenges
* Familiarity with structured design governance, configuration management, and quality assurance processes
