Senior .NET Engineer Location: Coventry or London - Hybrid – 1 to 2 days per week onsite Start Day: ASAP Contract Rate: TBC, likely in the region of £460 per day inside IR35 Duration: 6 to 12 months initially Role Overview Our client is seeking a Senior .NET Engineer to deliver secure, high‑quality backend services supporting critical business initiatives. This is a hands‑on contract role within a modern engineering environment, combining technical leadership with delivery ownership across cloud‑native platforms and secure-by-design solutions. You will work closely with engineering, product, security, and platform teams to design, build, and modernise .NET services while setting strong standards for quality, reliability, and observability. Key Responsibilities * Design, build, and maintain scalable .NET services using API‑first and event‑driven patterns. * Translate requirements into clear technical plans, estimates, and milestones, managing risks and dependencies. * Champion secure engineering practices, including OWASP Top 10/ASVS, OAuth2/OIDC, TLS, and secrets management. * Mentor engineers through pairing, design reviews, and technical coaching. * Drive CI/CD best practices, automated testing, and deployment pipelines. * Establish performance, reliability, observability, and SLO standards, supporting refactoring and modernisation. * Collaborate with product, QA, platform, InfoSec, and data governance stakeholders to unblock delivery and pass security reviews. Skills & Experience Essential: * Strong experience with .NET 8, C#, ASP.NET Core, REST APIs, async programming, and dependency injection. * Azure cloud experience (App Service, AKS, Functions), containers, CI/CD, and observability tooling. * Solid understanding of secure coding and authentication/authorisation patterns. * Experience with modern architectures (DDD, modular monoliths or microservices, event‑driven design). * Strong testing discipline (unit and component testing, e.g. xUnit). * Proven experience working in Agile/Scrum teams and mentoring other engineers. Desirable: * Retail domain experience (UK preferred). * Performance/load testing and resiliency testing exposure. * Microservices design experience. * MongoDB and Entity Framework knowledge.
