Freelance Opportunity – Quantity Surveyor (Rail civil engineering projects) Location: * 2–3 days per week in Ashford, Kent * 2–3 days working from home Rate: * £350 per day * Outside IR35 / Limited Company engagement Overview We are working with a long-standing Commercial Manager client within a national civil engineering contractor who specialise in rail infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain strong framework exposure within rail and NEC contract environments. Project Scope * High-volume minor capital works (typically up to £100k per project) * Full subcontracted delivery model (no self-delivery) * Potential future involvement in larger civils schemes (up to £5m) through the Eastern Routes Partnership, including: * Station buildings * Bridges * Civils & geotechnical works * Ancillary rail infrastructure Key Responsibilities * Managing and taking ownership of multiple minor works packages * Pricing and cost management (straightforward schemes) * Liaising directly with client representatives * Managing subcontractor accounts end-to-end * Working closely with Project & Delivery Managers daily * Handling applications, valuations, and payments * Supporting contract administration via CEMAR: * Early Warning Notices (EWNs) * Compensation Events Requirements * 2–3+ years’ experience within civils / infrastructure * Basic understanding of NEC contracts * Strong communication and organisation skills * Ability to manage multiple small-value projects simultaneously Next Steps If this opportunity is of interest, or you’d like to find out more, please apply or get in touch directly.
