About the role
Role Overview
The Estates, Facilities and Capital Planning directorate of NHS Highland provides a wide range of essential services which enable the continuous delivery of safe, high-quality care to patients and support the staff and public in our healthcare locations. The services are delivered by a team of over 1000 NHS staff.
The role will provide strategic, operational, and technical leadership to the Estates Major Capital Planning function across NHS Highland’s diverse and complex portfolio of property, services, staffing, and budgets, ensuring adoption of ‘best value’ principles, the development and maintenance of standards, and minimisation of risk exposure.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have responsibility for ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, and for the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and service delivery across Major Capital Planning services. The candidate will promote awareness of the contribution of Facilities and Estates services to the patient journey in terms of quality and effectiveness to staff and managers within and outside the directorate.
The successful candidate will lead on the delivery of NHS Highland’s Major Capital Projects, including the new £200m Lochaber Hospital Project.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the directorate senior leadership team, contributing to the formulation and implementation of national policy and guidance through Health Facilities Scotland and collegiate agreements. The candidate will contribute to the strategic and operational management of NHS Highland through various forums and groups such as the NHS Highland Senior Leadership Team, Area Partnership Forum, and H&SCP management teams.
The role requires the ability to provide long‑term strategic planning and the provision of Major Projects that directly support all clinical and non‑clinical services of NHS Highland and the delivery of organisational objectives.
