About the role
We curently have a Mechanical Design Engineer role withing our clients team you will be responsible for ensuring all mechanical designs fully meet customer requirements, with any exceptions clearly documented. The role provides accurate and complete manufacturing information to support efficient, high‑quality production and successful product delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Produce mechanical designs, 3D models, specifications, and detailed engineering drawings for components, sub‑assemblies, and top‑level assemblies using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks)
Prepare and maintain supporting manufacturing documentation including Bills of Materials (BOMs), routing cards, and process instructions
Update existing documentation using formal change management processes (ECR system)
Provide documented evidence of design verification and product validation, including project Statements of Compliance
Carry out tolerance analysis, risk assessments, and mitigation activities through project FMEA documentation
Support prototype build, testing, and validation activities throughout the development lifecycle
Ensure compliance with internal procedures for New Product Development (NPD), Change Control, and Configuration Management, with active participation in audits by QA, customers, and accreditation bodies
Ensure repeat and legacy product orders have appropriate and up‑to‑date documentation to support efficient manufacture
Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers on key NPD processes to ensure design‑for‑manufacture and design‑for‑assembly best practice
Work closely with customers to resolve technical queries and support new business opportunities
Provide pre‑sales technical input and after‑sales engineering support as required
Work in full compliance with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory requirements
Skills & Experience
Proven experience in a Mechanical Design / Engineering role
Strong CAD capability, ideally using SolidWorks
Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
Understanding of design verification, validation, and change control processes
Knowledge of FMEA, tolerance analysis, and risk management
Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal teams
Organised, detail‑focused, and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities
Qualifications (Preferred but Not Essential)
Degree, HNC, or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Experience working in a manufacturing or NPD environment
