Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Role PurposeWe are seeking an experienced and ambitious Principal Design Engineer to join a growing Building Services consultancy. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level engineer looking to lead the design and delivery of complex projects across commercial, residential, healthcare, education, industrial, and mixed-use developments.ResponsibilitiesLead the design and delivery of building services projects from concept through to completion.Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinate with architects, contractors, and external stakeholders.Produce and review detailed engineering calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings.Provide technical leadership across HVAC, public health, electrical, or mechanical building services disciplines.Ensure compliance with current regulations, British Standards, and industry best practices.Attend client meetings and act as a technical lead throughout project lifecycles.Support business development activities, including fee proposals, presentations, and bid submissions.Manage project resources, budgets, and programme delivery.Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers.Contribute to sustainability initiatives, low-carbon design strategies, and net-zero projects.RequirementsDegree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards Chartership.Extensive building services design experience within a consultancy environment.Strong technical knowledge of UK building regulations and relevant design standards.Proven experience leading projects and managing client relationships.Proficiency with industry-standard design software such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux, IES, Hevacomp, Revit, AutoCAD, or similar.Excellent communication and leadership skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver within programme deadlines.Note: No Visa sponsorshipSearch is an equal opportunities recruiter and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified applicants, regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation or age.
