THE POSITION

We’re searching for an Energy Systems Modelling Consultant to join us at an exciting stage of our growth. In this role, you will use technical expertise in mathematical modelling and simulation of energy systems, particularly the GB energy system, to support TNEI’s mission in the energy transition.

This role is suited to an experienced engineer or modeller with a focus on technical delivery and problem solving. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Delivery;

  • Specify and run energy systems simulation models, considering topics such as flexibility, asset condition, forecasting, resilience and system adequacy.
  • Research and develop modelling and simulation methodologies for energy systems applications.
  • Analyse modelling results and produce clear technical reports and outputs for clients.
  • Lead technical tasks and support or mentor more junior members of the team, including the review of work and support to internal quality assurance processes, as required.
  • Manage programming projects, including the review of team contributions, in Git using best practice for version control and quality assurance.
  • Provide technical guidance and training
  • Contribute to client meetings and internal coordination to support successful project delivery.
  • Support the generation of cutting-edge ideas for new projects, including proposals and innovation projects.

Knowledge sharing and thought leadership

  • Production of both technical and non-technical material for disseminating insights to clients and on behalf of our clients.
  • Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and networking events.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and developments.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential requirements include:

  • Degree or Masters in a highly numerate discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics or Physics; or an engineering degree with particularly strong maths and coding skills.
  • At least 4 years of relevant energy sector experience.
  • Knowledge of the Great Britain transmission and distribution systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience writing project reports.
  • Programming expertise in Python and experience with other programming languages.
  • Experience of managing programming projects using version control tools such as Git.
  • Experience of the methods required for energy systems modelling, such as probabilistic modelling, optimisation and decision making, agent-based modelling or Monte Carlo simulation.
  • A well-rounded approach, with the ability to deliver work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to engage with clients and build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Commercial and strategic thinking, including a good understanding of energy market trends, technologies and regulatory models, and the ability to assess business drivers and models.
  • Experience writing proposals for clients and managing projects.
  • Postgraduate research experience, such as a Masters or PhD, is welcome but not essential.
