About the role

You know your mechanical design work is solid, but at associate level you are still waiting for the projects that let you prove it end to end. This is an Associate Mechanical Engineer position with a long established London building services consultancy that has been designing, installing and commissioning M&E systems since the 1930s. The practice runs one of the largest in-house digital construction and BIM teams in London and works across commercial offices, banking, data centres, government buildings, education and residential schemes, giving associates exposure to a genuinely wide project mix rather than one repeated building type. The mechanical team here is growing, with more than one senior opening alongside this role, which tells you the workload is real rather than a single vacancy being backfilled. That growth means associates get pulled into design decisions early rather than kept on drafting duties while more senior engineers take the interesting calls. You would take mechanical design ownership across live commercial and public sector projects, working inside an integrated design, installation and commissioning team rather than handing designs off to a separate delivery arm.Salary is between 75,000 and 90,000, depending on experience. If this sounds like the associate role you have been ready for, send your CV over and we will talk through the live projects in more detail. If you've read this far and you're still unsure and would prefer a detailed market insight including salary bands and market trends - then check out our free guide here: https://www.responsumltd.com/uk-salary-guide-2026
