School Chef - September Start

Chef – Education Setting Location: Bristol Salary: £22,947 - £25,010 (Actual Salary) Contract: Temp to Perm Hours: 37 Hours Per Week M&M Supply is recruiting for an experienced and enthusiastic Chef to join the catering team within an education setting. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a busy kitchen and takes pride in delivering high-quality food and excellent service. You will work alongside the wider catering team to provide meals for students, staff and visitors, while supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the catering operation. The position involves food preparation and cooking alongside responsibilities including menu planning, ordering, stock management and costings. You will also have the opportunity to contribute ideas to the ongoing development of the catering service. Key Responsibilities * Prepare and assist with breakfast, lunch, buffets and catering for internal and external events. * Prepare and serve high-quality meals to students, staff and visitors. * Support menu planning and food costings. * Assist with ordering and stock management. * Complete regular stock checks and monthly stocktakes. * Monitor supplier prices and help ensure value for money. * Maintain high standards of food quality and presentation. * Ensure the kitchen, equipment, utensils and work areas are maintained to excellent hygiene standards. * Follow food safety, COSHH and allergen requirements. * Provide information regarding meal content, allergens and dietary requirements. * Support new or less experienced members of the catering team. * Maintain positive relationships with colleagues, suppliers, students and visitors. * Participate in relevant training and professional development. The role requires someone comfortable working in a busy kitchen environment, including periods of standing, lifting and working in hot conditions. Occasional evening and weekend work may also be required. About You We are looking for someone who has: * Experience working within a busy kitchen or catering environment. * Experience with stock ordering and stock management. * Experience with menu planning and preparing meals. * Strong food preparation and cooking skills. * Knowledge of food hygiene, COSHH and safe working practices. * Knowledge of healthy eating and dietary requirements. * The ability to safely operate kitchen equipment and machinery. * Excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene. * Good communication and interpersonal skills. * The ability to work independently as well as part of a team. * A calm, reliable and flexible approach. * Good attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under pressure. A City & Guilds 706/1 qualification or equivalent, and NVQ Level 1 and 2 in Hospitality and Catering or equivalent, or working towards these qualifications, are included within the essential criteria. Experience working in education or catering for functions such as weddings and buffets is desirable.
