We are working with a fast-growing energy business to recruit a Legal Trainee to join its London-based team.

Operating at the intersection of energy supply, trading, technology and the transition to a lower-carbon economy, the company partners with major commercial energy users and generators across the UK.


This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring solicitor to begin or develop their career in-house, gaining exposure to a highly commercial and rapidly evolving industry.


Qualification requirement: Applicants must have completed the SQE route (SQE1 and SQE2) or be eligible to qualify via the LPC transitional route. Candidates should be fully examination-qualified and require only the two years’ Qualifying Work Experience / recognised period of training to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales.


The role

Working closely with experienced legal and commercial colleagues, you will support the business across a broad range of matters, potentially including:

  • Drafting, reviewing and managing commercial contracts
  • Supporting energy supply and renewable-energy arrangements
  • Conducting legal and regulatory research
  • Assisting with contract negotiations and execution
  • Supporting compliance and governance matters
  • Working with stakeholders across trading, sales, operations, finance and regulation
  • Maintaining legal records, templates and contract-management processes
  • Helping the legal team respond to the changing needs of a growing business


We are interested in speaking with candidates who:

  • Have completed, or are close to completing, a law degree or equivalent legal qualification with excellent academics
  • Can demonstrate a genuine interest in developing an in-house legal career
  • Possess strong written communication, research and analytical skills
  • Are organised, accurate and comfortable managing competing priorities
  • Have a practical, commercially minded approach to problem-solving
  • Are confident building relationships with colleagues across a business
  • Show curiosity, initiative and a willingness to learn


Previous experience in energy or another regulated industry would be advantageous but is not essential. xwzovoh We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong academic record from a leading UK university.
