Job Description

Duration: 1 year
Start Date: July 2027
Location: Enstone

About Us

We are a high-performance Formula One Team driven by innovation, precision, and passion. Our Aerodynamics department is responsible for delivering performance through the development and optimisation of aerodynamic concepts using a combination of simulation tools, manufacturing technologies and experimental testing.

The Aero Production Systems team supports the manufacturing and operational activities that enable rapid aerodynamic development. Working across ADM, the Aero Machine Shop and Modelshop, the team develops the systems, processes and data required to maximise efficiency, improve visibility and support decision-making in one of the most demanding engineering environments in the world.

As an Aero Production Systems Placement Student, you will gain hands-on experience at the intersection of manufacturing, data analysis, software development and continuous improvement. You'll work with engineers, technicians and planners to help optimise the way aerodynamic components are manufactured, tracked and delivered, contributing directly to the effectiveness of our aerodynamic development programme.

The Role

This placement offers a unique opportunity to work within the operational side of Formula One aerodynamics, supporting the systems and processes that underpin aerodynamic manufacturing.

You will help develop reporting tools, analyse manufacturing performance, support capacity planning and identify opportunities to improve efficiency across ADM, the Aero Machine Shop and Model Shop. Working closely with the Aero Planner and manufacturing teams, you will contribute to developing better data, improved visibility and more effective decision-making across the department.

The role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys combining engineering, data analysis and software development to solve real-world operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing reports, dashboards and performance metrics

  • Collect, analyse and interpret production data to identify trends, bottlenecks and improvement opportunities

  • Support capacity planning and workload forecasting activities across ADM, the Aero Machine Shop and Modelshop

  • Work closely with the Aero Planner to improve visibility of resource utilisation, production demand and manufacturing performance

  • Monitor component flow through manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to reduce lead times and improve throughput

  • Support continuous improvement projects focused on operational efficiency and delivery performance

  • Develop and maintain software tools to automate data collection, reporting and analysis

  • Assist in the development and improvement of departmental databases, planning tools and workflow management systems

  • Identify opportunities to replace manual processes with automated and data-driven solutions

  • Produce data-driven recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making

  • Support process mapping, documentation and the development of standard operating procedures

  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians and operational teams to understand challenges and implement practical improvements

 Who We’re Looking For

  • Currently studying for a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Motorsport Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Operations Management or a related discipline, and seeking an industry placement during your penultimate year of university

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Comfortable working with large datasets and translating data into meaningful insights

  • Strong numerical and reporting skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau or other data visualisation tools would be advantageous

  • Experience of coding or software development through university projects, Formula Student, personal projects or industry experience

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, C#, JavaScript, SQL or similar would be beneficial

  • An interest in manufacturing operations, production systems, process improvement and digitalisation

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • A proactive mindset with the confidence to challenge existing processes and suggest improvements

  • Experience working on team-based projects through university, Formula Student, part-time employment or extracurricular activities would be beneficial

  • A passion for motorsport and enthusiasm for working in a high-performance environment

  • You must have the right to work in the UK, as we cannot provide sponsorship for this role

  • Be available to attend onsite for an assessment centre in September
