AI/ML Engineer

Job title: AI/ML Engineer Location: Romsey, Hampshire/Hybrid (2 days per week on site)Salary: 65,000 plus 6% bonusCandidates must be willing and eligible to go through SC security clearance. You'll be researching, experimenting, developing and delivering novel AI/ML solutions that can make a real-world difference.What you'll be working on:You'll operate at the cutting edge of AI/ML, working across areas including:Computer VisionReinforcement LearningLarge Language Models (LLMs)Natural Language Processing (NLP)Deep Learning and advanced ML techniquesNovel algorithm development and experimentationA key part of the role is taking academic research and state-of-the-art techniques and turning them into practical, usable solutions for complex customer challenges.This isn't just a research roleYou'll remain hands-on technically, whilst also taking a leading role within engineering teams.You'll have the opportunity to:Develop novel AI/ML solutions from the ground upLead technically complex R&D projectsTranslate research papers and emerging techniques into working solutionsBuild production-quality software using PythonMentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineersWork across multidisciplinary engineering teamsEngage directly with customers on early-stage technical challengesContribute to bids, proposals and solution designHelp shape the direction of Roke's AI/ML capabilityWhat we're looking forWe're interested in people who combine genuine AI/ML expertise with strong software engineering ability. You'll ideally have:Proven commercial experience in AI/ML R&DStrong Python development skillsExperience in one or more of Computer Vision, NLP, LLMs or Reinforcement LearningA track record of developing novel AI/ML applicationsExperience adapting and applying academic researchStrong software engineering fundamentalsExperience working in Agile engineering environmentsIf you are interested in this role or wish to apply, please submit your CV.
