About the role

Purpose of the role:To support the Risk Function in delivering its objective of safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic direction for risk, including implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes.
  • Manage the risk department, including oversight of staff, performance, and department efficiency.
  • Manage relationships with risk stakeholders and maintain quality of external third‑party services.
  • Adhere to risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintain a robust control environment.
  • Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with other functions and lead a team performing complex tasks.
  • Set objectives, coach employees, appraise performance, and determine reward outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the four LEAD behaviours: Listen, Energise, Align, and Develop.
  • Lead collaborative assignments, guide team members, and identify new directions for projects.
  • Consult on complex issues and advise People Leaders on escalated matters.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies and procedures to support governance.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work performed.
  • Perform work that is closely related to other areas, requiring coordination to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Engage with business activity and strategy to remain aligned with business goals.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources, both internal and external.
  • Communicate complex information clearly and influence stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a financial crime or fraud prevention environment.
  • Analytics tool experience such as SAS, Python, and SQL.
  • Experience in identifying risk.
  • Awareness of risk and controls environment.
  • Stakeholder management experience.
  • Risk management experience or awareness.

Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow.
