Wellington College is seeking an experienced and compassionate Housemaster or Housemistress to lead The Orange, a well-established girls' boarding House at the heart of College life. This is a distinctive opportunity for an accomplished pastoral leader to shape an environment in which pupils feel Safe, understood and encouraged to develop confidence, independence and a strong sense of community.
The successful candidate will provide inspirational and intelligent leadership for the House, working closely with the Deputy Housemaster or Housemistress, tutors, Matron and wider colleagues to support each pupil's personal, academic and co-curricular journey. They will foster relationships founded on trust with pupils and their families, maintaining an approachable presence and recognising the importance of everyday moments in creating a settled, secure and positive boarding experience.
The Orange is a lively, welcoming community where girls pursue a broad range of interests while supporting one another with generosity and care. Its next Housemaster or Housemistress will champion this spirit, encouraging pupils to contribute fully to House and College life, to take responsibility for themselves and others, and to grow through both challenge and reflection. They will lead a committed House team, bringing sound judgement, strong communication and a collaborative approach to the care and development of young people, underpinned at all times by the highest levels of safeguarding.
Alongside their pastoral leadership, the postholder will teach across Years 9 to 13 and make an important contribution to the wider life of the College. This will include an enthusiasm for the rich opportunities available beyond the classroom, from activities and events to weekends in the boarding community. The role calls for a professional with a secure understanding of boarding, adolescent development and the expectations of a leading independent school, together with the warmth, resilience and integrity to lead a House with purpose.
The Housemaster or Housemistress will reside in the family accommodation attached to The Orange, enabling them to play a central part in the daily rhythm and character of this special House.
