This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a high-profile programme within the healthcare sector, providing critical financial leadership and support to the Equip Programme.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring robust financial management, delivering insightful financial reporting, supporting strategic decision-making, and maintaining strong governance and control frameworks.
The role Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance, the Project Accountant will lead on the provision of financial support across a major programme, ensuring effective budget management and compliance with public sector financial standards.
Key responsibilities will include: Producing accurate and timely financial reports, forecasts and expenditure analysis.
Supporting programme leadership with financial planning, budgetary control and decision-making.
Monitoring programme expenditure and identifying financial risks, pressures and variances.
Working closely with project managers and stakeholders to ensure effective financial governance.
Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts and audit requirements.
Managing budget allocations across revenue and capital expenditure streams.
Assisting with the development and financial appraisal of business cases in line with Green Book guidance.
Leading on financial controls, compliance and reporting requirements.
Managing relationships with internal and external auditors.
Providing line management, leadership and development support to finance staff.
Deputising for senior finance leadership where required.
The Person To be considered, you will meet the following essential criteria: Fully qualified accountant (ICAI, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent recognised body).
Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience.
At least 2 years' relevant experience within the last 5 years in either: Project accounting, control account reconciliations and capital accounting; OR Management accounting, supporting budget holders and preparing business cases.
Strong stakeholder management experience, with the ability to influence and communicate effectively at senior levels.
Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
Experience working with financial systems and computerised accounting ledgers.
Desirable Experience working within Health and Social Care (HSC) or a similar public sector environment.
Knowledge of public sector accounting and governance requirements.
