The Role
Reporting into the HR function, you will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive L&D strategy aligned to business priorities. You will partner closely with leaders across the organisation to build technical capability, strengthen leadership pipelines, and improve engagement throughout the employee lifecycle.
As we are a small team this is a hands-on and strategic role, requiring strong project delivery skills, stakeholder management, and the ability to influence at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Delivery
- Design and implement a forward-looking learning and development strategy aligned to organisational goals
- Identify training needs across all areas of the business, ensuring a balance of technical, professional and leadership development
- Design and deliver structured training to areas of the business where required
- Source, manage and evaluate external training providers, ensuring quality and value for money
- Manage L&D budgets effectively, ensuring strong ROI and measurable outcomes
Performance & Capability Development
- Redesign and embed an effective, inclusive performance review framework for both staff and industrial populations
- Develop clear role profiles and capability expectations in partnership with HR and business leaders
- Establish robust methods to measure performance, progression and impact
Technical Training & Skills Framework
- Work with operational teams to define technical competency requirements across all roles
- Build structured training pathways to develop critical skills within the organisation
- Implement a competency framework aligned to industry and professional standards
Succession Planning & Career Development
- Develop and embed a practical succession planning process to support business continuity and growth
- Support managers and employees in career development conversations and progression planning
Digital Learning & Systems
- Oversee the organisation’s Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring content is relevant, accessible and impactful
- Continuously improve e-learning provision, tailoring content by role and organisational needs
Employee Engagement
- Lead and support employee engagement initiatives, helping to build a positive, inclusive and high-performing culture
Early Careers
- Partner with the Apprenticeship Co-ordinator to enhance and grow apprenticeship programmes
- Explore and establish a targeted Graduate entry programme
- Work towards professional accreditation of learning pathways and early careers programmes
About You
You are a credible and engaging L&D professional with a track record of delivering impactful learning solutions in a complex organisation. You combine strategic thinking with strong delivery capability and thrive in a hands-on role where you can make a real difference.
You will bring:
- Proven experience as an L&D Manager or similar role
- Strong knowledge of modern learning methods, digital tools and blended learning approaches
- Experience designing performance management and competency frameworks
- Demonstrable project management and budget management experience
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders and influencing across all levels
- Strong communication, facilitation and presentation skills
- Experience working with Learning Management Systems and content development
- Commercial awareness and an ability to align people initiatives with business goals
- Degree-level qualification or relevant professional certification
