Defence Project Manager
About the role
I am recruiting Project Managers for permanent positions delivering UK Ministry of Defence projects in Bristol. These opportunities suit people who have personally taken responsibility for a project, work package or defined area of delivery rather than simply coordinated meetings or produced reports.
The main requirement is for experienced defence Project Managers. Capable developing Project Managers with genuine ownership of defined work packages will also be considered.
Salary and working pattern
£50K-£58K basic salary, with up to £60K possible for exceptional candidates.
Permanent, full-time employment supporting MOD project delivery.
3 days per week onsite at a Bristol MOD location and 2 days working from home. A sustainable Bristol commute is essential.
What you would be responsible for
Taking ownership of a project, control account or work package, including agreed objectives, milestones and delivery outcomes.
Managing scope, schedule, cost awareness, risks, issues, dependencies and controlled changes.
Working with engineering, commercial, finance, suppliers and Project Controls colleagues to keep delivery on track.
Providing useful performance updates, resolving delivery problems and supporting formal governance, approvals and assurance.
Essential requirements
Practical project-management delivery experience within UK defence, with clear personal accountability for outcomes.
Sole British citizenship, as required for the security-sensitive work. Dual citizenship cannot be considered for these positions.
Current or previously held UK Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. Previously held clearance can be considered, subject to the required checks.
A recognised project management qualification, with APM PMQ particularly desirable.
Ability to work onsite in Bristol 3 days per week on an ongoing basis.
What matters most
Defence experience and a Project Manager title are not enough on their own. I would particularly like to hear what you have personally delivered, the decisions you were accountable for and how you managed problems affecting scope, time or cost. Direct MOD or defence supplier experience is particularly relevant.
Interested?
Apply with your CV. Please make sure it shows the projects or work packages you personally owned, your project management qualification and whether you currently hold or have previously held SC or DV clearance
