Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Internship, Mechanical
Location: Llantrisant
Overview: The Manufacturing Engineering Internship supports the Global Operations Division over a 12‑month period, providing an opportunity to learn and work as an essential member of the Engineering team. Your work will involve understanding manufactured instruments, supporting production engineers, and managing engineering design changes for optical and analytical instruments that require precise manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
- Design Change Analysis: review and assess the impact of design modifications on manufacturing processes, determine if the proposed design change is fit for purpose, and understand reasons for changes such as obsolescence, design improvements, and cost down.
- Change Validation: support testing and validation of design modifications in a manufacturing environment.
- Implementation Planning: develop methodical approaches for rolling out design changes to production, working closely with the SAP implementation specialist.
- Planning and Purchasing Liaison: understand the impact of engineering changes on manufacturing stocks, lead times and output capacity.
- Manufacturing Liaison: work directly with production teams to ensure smooth transition of modified designs.
- Process Documentation: update work instructions, SOPs and manufacturing documentation following design changes.
- Change Management: follow the engineering change process through to completion using bespoke software.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering.
- Good written and oral communication skills for effective interaction with team leaders, fellow engineers and management.
- A proactive approach to problem identification and resolution.
- Good organisational skills, self‑motivated, detail‑oriented and passionate about learning with a practical mindset.
- Ability to critically analyse performance and engineering practices to define and improve departmental procedures.
- Strong abilities in technical drawings and 3‑D CAD models, especially involving materials and treated parts such as anodised parts.
- Experience with software packages including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Right to work in the UK.
Travel: Both domestic and international travel may be required on an occasional basis.
