Dumfries & Galloway’s Transitions Team have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Family Support Worker to join the team. This position is Fixed Term up to 12 months fulltime (36 hours per week) and based in the East of the Region. You would be joining an established region-wide team who prides themselves in building strong relationships with young people and are committed and motivated to supporting them in their transition to independence. The young people you will be working with will be wide and varied and include those who are nearing 16 years of age, who are/have been looked after or have recently left care (up to the age of 26).

As a Senior Family Support Worker in the team, you will be responsible for young people’s pathways plans and supporting them across many aspects of their lives including accommodation, education, training and employment. We would also be looking for you to be proactive in helping young people develop or enhance their skills. Liaison with other key professionals and partners is key.
The ideal candidate will be exceptional at building working relationships with our most vulnerable young people, be a proactive team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work flexibly, and independently. You must have a good working knowledge of child and adult protection, legislation and guidance relating to Corporate Parenting and looked after children. Furthermore, knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by looked after children, and their journey through care and aftercare is essential, as well as excellent report writing and assessment skills. Experience of working and supporting vulnerable young people is essential.
You must be enthusiastic, passionate, motivated, and committed to providing a high standard of support to young people and making steps, alongside young people, to make positive changes, no matter how small.
We can offer you a commitment to your own learning and professional development, and ensure you are supported through regular reflective one-to-one supervision, group supervision, Team Meetings and weekly informal catch-up sessions.
An SVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent is essential, as is a current driving licence.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
