About the role
Engineering Planner
Beccles, Suffolk | £35,000–£40,000
The opportunity
This is a chance to join an established engineering manufacturer working on bespoke automation projects, where no two builds are quite the same.
They are looking for someone who can bring structure to multiple live engineering projects. You’ll sit between design, engineering, procurement and assembly, making sure the right work happens at the right time and projects continue moving towards their delivery dates.
It would suit someone who enjoys planning but also wants to understand what is happening on the engineering and production floor, rather than simply updating schedules from behind a desk.
The role
As Engineering Planner, you’ll take ownership of planning and coordinating engineering activity across multiple projects.
You’ll be responsible for:
* Building and maintaining engineering project plans and master planning spreadsheets.
* Planning design and engineering activities against overall project timelines.
* Coordinating deliverables and release dates around procurement and assembly requirements.
* Making sure drawings and engineering information are released in the correct sequence for the build.
* Tracking progress against project milestones and highlighting potential delays.
* Working closely with Project Managers, Design, Engineering, Procurement and Production.
* Supporting resource and capacity planning across the engineering team.
* Identifying workload clashes, bottlenecks and competing priorities.
* Reprioritising work when project requirements or commercial deadlines change.
* Providing clear updates on progress, capacity, risks and upcoming deadlines.
What they’re looking for
You don’t necessarily need to have held the title Engineering Planner before.
They’re interested in people from engineering or manufacturing environments who have experience planning projects, production or technical workloads.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
* Experience building or maintaining project, production or engineering plans.
* A background within engineering, manufacturing or production.
* An understanding of how design, procurement, manufacture and assembly fit together.
* Experience using ERP or MRP systems.
* Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office skills.
* The confidence to challenge priorities and keep different departments aligned.
* Good organisation and the ability to manage several projects at the same time.
* Experience within automation, machinery, machine build or another project-led manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant.
Why it’s worth a conversation
This isn’t a role where you’ll simply be handed a production schedule to maintain.
You’ll have visibility across the full project lifecycle and genuine ownership of how engineering work is planned and prioritised. You’ll be working around bespoke machinery and complex engineering projects, with the opportunity to improve how planning is done rather than just follow an existing process.
For someone coming from production planning, project coordination or engineering who wants broader project ownership, it could be a very good next move
