Commercial Manager – Major Projects (NEC4)

Location: Cardiff / Bristol (Hybrid)

This is a rare opportunity to join a major projects team at a pivotal moment, taking on a key commercial leadership role within the Commercial & Contracts function.

You’ll play a central role in delivering one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure transformation programmes, alongside a portfolio of major capital projects ranging from £100m to £1bn, spanning marine, civils, terminal developments, and green energy.

Working as a trusted commercial lead, you’ll drive value, manage risk, and ensure robust contract governance across the full project lifecycle in a complex, high‑profile delivery environment. You will also lead and develop a small team of commercial professionals, providing guidance, mentoring, and oversight on project delivery.

The Role

  • Lead cost and contract management across major infrastructure projects
  • Manage and develop a small team of commercial professionals
  • Own project financials including forecasting, cost control and reporting
  • Manage NEC4 contracts, ensuring best practice in administration and governance
  • Provide strategic commercial guidance to senior stakeholders
  • Support procurement strategy, tendering and contract development
  • Oversee external consultants and ensure high‑quality commercial outputs
  • Identify and manage commercial risks, disputes, and opportunities

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong background in commercial, cost and contract management within major infrastructure
  • Early career background as a Quantity Surveyor or in construction commercial management is highly desirable
  • Experience managing a team of commercial or contract professionals
  • Experience on projects £100m–£1bn (client or contractor side)
  • Deep expertise in NEC4 contracts
  • Proven ability to operate in complex, multi‑disciplinary environments
  • Strong commercial judgement, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Ideally chartered (MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent)
