This is an exciting opportunity for you to be part of a global team within the Trading & Supply Compliance space. You’ll have the chance to deal with all levels of stakeholders within T&S. What's the roleReporting to the Head of Regulation within Trading & Supply (T&S) Compliance, the Senior Advisor Trade Controls is the lead Trade Control focal point supporting the Head of Regulation and the Compliance team for Trade Controls which includes import/export matters, advice on trade restrictions such as Drug Precursor legislation and Dual use good, for the different Trading & Supply business activities and lines of business (Crude Trading, Products Trading, Gas & Energy Marketing & Trading, Shipping & Supply Operations) as required. The role holder will work together closely with the compliance team, legal, Shell Ethics and Compliance, Finance, Operations and Commercial staff in Trading & Supply and key stakeholders outside of T&S.Accountabilities:Manage and develop the expertise of the team of Trade Compliance experts within T&S; Provide operational Trade Compliance advice and instructions on trade restrictions and requirements for key trade control legislation e.g. Drug Precursors, Dangerous GoodsSupport the controls team with the development, implementation and governance of export and import control process and policy to ensure full alignment with legislation Support tax and other relevant function to update, maintain and ensure accuracy of customs tariff information in internal systems.SME on all preferential and non-preferential origin queries Advise the business on maintaining accurate records and files containing import and export documents and information Work alongside and support LOD1 to ensure all export control licenses are in place where required and import and exports are controlled appropriatelyLiaise closely with tax, Trade Compliance Manager to resolve and avoid Trade Compliance issues (e.g. imports, exports, anti-boycott)Assess T&S’s risk exposure to trade compliance risksAddress escalations for any trade compliance breaches or deviations to policySupport training for the T&S business and the Compliance Advisory team to manage basic Trade Compliance queriesAcquire, possess and maintain adequate levels of Trade Compliance knowledge, experience and expertiseAcquire, possess and maintain a robust working knowledge of the T&S business and enable integration of mandatory Trade Compliance procedures into business processes to manage and mitigate identified Trade Compliance risksKeep apprised of changes in regulatory requirements in trade controlsPromote awareness of Trade Compliance risks and required processes throughout the organizationMaintain close collaboration with all relevant functions and compliance staff in the respective organizationWhat we need from youWe’re keen to speak from individuals with proven operational experience in trade controls (e.g. in a trade compliance, customs or procurement role) and with detailed knowledge of key trade compliance legislation – both imports and exports:Customs Procedure Codes Commodity Codes and tariff classification Inward Processing Export controls You must have in-depth knowledge and expertise within functional areas of UK import and export control licensing regulations, and some knowledge of US export control licensing regulations. We require high level knowledge of sanction regulations and experience of liaising with government agencies would be an advantage.In addition to the above, we’d hope you possess the following attributes: Prior senior stakeholder engagement experience.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence and ability to interact at all levels in T&S, including very senior levels.The ability to collaborate effectively and at pace with stakeholders across T&S and at all levels.Ability to build a shared vision across multiple functions and motivate and coach a breadth of staff to deliver against it.Strong problem-solving skills.Ability to resolve conflicting issues in effectively and responsibly.Demonstrated strong change management skillsThe successful candidate must have initiative and the discipline to prioritise projects and conflicting demands, be able to respect confidentiality requirements, possess the skills to communicate with tact and diplomacy and be able to maintain effective relationships both internally and externally to Shell.
