About the role

We are working with a College in Newcastle who are looking for a permanent member of staff to lead the English department. This would be a full time position starting from September. Requirements: For the Head of English, they are focusing on someone that has strong management background and skills - Lots of drive around high achievement and strong with deadlines. Must have a teaching qualification because they would be expected to step in should the have a lot of sickness etc. Ideally from a background in English but will consider other subjects area if they are are strong in all the other areas. This will be managing Functional skill and GCSE English department. They will consider HOD/Curriculum Managers for any subject area. What we’re looking for You’ll be a confident and experienced leader with a strong background in English education and curriculum delivery. You’ll bring: * A degree (or equivalent professional qualification) at Level 6 or above * Proven experience leading and line managing teams, setting clear expectations and tackling underperformance * A strong track record of delivering against strategic objectives and quality standards * Experience managing budgets and driving value for moneyExcellent stakeholder engagement and partnership-building skills * A deep commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and learner wellbeing * You’ll be joining a values‑driven organisation with a strong civic mission and a clear ambition to be outstanding in all that we do.
