About the role

Instrument Technicians for Shutdown Work Barry, South Wales Start: 1st June | 4 Weeks Duration £30.00 – £35.00 per hour depending on experience (CIS / LTD) We are currently looking for experienced Instrument Technicians to support a planned major shutdown on a large-scale chemical manufacturing site in south Wales. This is a well-organised shutdown being delivered by an established Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) contractor, operating within high-hazard, safety-critical environments across the UK. The Role You will be working as part of a dedicated shutdown team, focused on delivering key inspection, maintenance and commissioning activities within a live industrial environment. Duties will include: * Instrument calibration, maintenance and fault finding * Supporting shutdown and turnaround works across process systems * Assisting with installation, loop checks and functional testing * Supporting commissioning and handover activities * Working closely with supervisors and engineers to deliver works safely and efficiently * Ensuring full compliance with site safety procedures and permit systems The Environment * Large, complex chemical / process plant operating 24/7 * Work carried out in a COMAH / hazardous area environment * Strict safety, compliance and quality standards * Fast-paced shutdown with a clear programme and delivery deadlines What We’re Looking For * Proven experience as an Instrument Technician in industrial or process environments * Strong background in shutdown, maintenance, and calibration work Essential: * Valid CCNSG / Safety Passport Desirable: * CompEx certification * Previous experience in chemical, petrochemical, energy, or heavy industrial sectors Pay Rates * £30.00 – £35.00 per hour (depending on experience) * 70 hours per week (10-hour shifts) * 4-week shutdown * Weekly pay * CIS or LTD payment options available Why Apply? * Join a well-run, high-value shutdown from 1st June for 4 weeks * Opportunity to work with a specialist EC&I contractor delivering complex industrial projects * Potential for follow-on work across South Wales after completion If you’re available from 1st June and looking for a solid shutdown role with good hours, please apply today or get in touch for more details
