Flexible Part‑Time Contract, 30 weeks per annum

Salary Range: £111,430 – £148,064 per annum (pro rata)

Additional allowances: 8% On‑call availability supplement
£2,578 Distant Islands Allowance per annum (pro rata)
Relocation assistance up to £8,000 (pro rata)

Role Overview

She tland Health Board is seeking a Consultant to contribute to the development of Obstetric and Gynaecology services in Shetland. The post holder will work part‑time with the Health Board/Trust of your choice but will rotate in Shetland to maintain skills and pursue sub‑specialty interests.

Clinical Leadership: Work with the Chief Midwife to ensure policies and procedures align with modern practice and NHS Scotland best practice.

Work Pattern: Minimum 17 weeks clinical practice in Shetland (4‑week blocks) with up to 13 weeks of pro‑rated annual leave, CPD time, Global Health or sub‑specialty interest time divided between Obstetrics and Gynaecology in a specialist centre.

On‑call Commitment: Non‑onerous on‑call for Obstetrics and Gynaecology while in Shetland. Remuneration commensurate with the Scottish Consultant Scale at 0.58 WTE. Reasonable training allowance and travel/accommodation support provided.

The role includes working with midwives with extended practice skills, consultant anaesthetists, general surgeons, and resuscitation facilities. Elective caesarean sections are local; high‑risk follow‑up uses tele‑health. Emergency retrieval by air ambulance to Aberdeen, supported by Scotstar neonatal transport services where required.

Requirements

Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment.
