Role OverviewThe Interactive Brokers Global Tax Team serves an important role in the success of our business. We mitigate risk and create value for our business and our customers. We partner with many functions across the company, including Technology, Business Development, Accounting, Treasury, Customer Service and Marketing, to assist our business in achieving our commitment of delivering value through technological innovation and providing our clients with unprecedented access to global markets at the lowest cost. The Global Tax Team sets the tax policy for the company, and identifies, develops, implements, and manages tax strategies to help minimize our overall tax cost. We advise on the tax aspects of our product offerings to customers, manage tax audits, and ensure financial reporting and tax returns are filed timely and accurately.We are seeking a highly skilled tax professional to join our Global Tax team with a focus on customer taxes in European markets. This role will report to the Director of UK & APAC Tax and work alongside other members of the Global Tax Team, particularly the U.S.-based information reporting & withholding tax team, to ensure comprehensive global coverage of customer tax obligations. While the initial focus will be on designing and developing customer tax statements for European retail clients, this role requires robust experience and solid technical understanding of information reporting and withholding tax requirements across European countries.The ideal candidate will have strong technical tax knowledge of investment products, deep expertise in European tax filing obligations by retail customers, and knowledge of information reporting and withholding obligations by brokers, and the ability to translate complex tax requirements into operational processes and customer communications. A successful candidate will be a collaborative team player who is entrepreneurial, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.ResponsibilitiesCustomer Tax Statement Development & DeliveryDesign, develop, and maintain customer tax statements for European retail clients covering a wide range of investment products including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs, futures, options, and other derivativesEnsure tax statements comply with local tax reporting requirements and formats across multiple European jurisdictionsReview and validate tax calculations for accuracy, including capital gains/losses, dividend income, interest income, withholding taxes, and tax reclaim informationPartner with Technology teams to implement and enhance automated tax statement generation processesCreate customer-facing documentation and guidance materials explaining tax statement information and tax reporting obligationsProduct & Venue AnalysisResearch and analyse new and existing product offerings and new venue launches to determine customer tax implications, information reporting requirements, and withholding tax obligations for European marketsProvide technical guidance on tax treatment and reporting obligations for various investment products and transaction typesDraft functional requirements for information reporting and withholding tax features to software development teamsDevelop and maintain tax calculation methodologies for complex products and cross-border transactionsResearch, Monitoring & Continuous ImprovementMonitor, research, and analyse new laws and changes to existing laws that impact customer information reporting, withholding tax, and tax statement requirements across European countriesAssess impact of legislative changes on IBKR’s processes and systems and communicate requirements to relevant stakeholdersIdentify and design system improvements that automate processes related to customer tax documentation, information reporting, withholding tax, and tax statement generationDevelop and document standard operating procedures for information reporting, withholding tax operations, and tax statement preparationAssist with research, development, and integration of new tax technologies, including tax data collection and automationContribute to special projects related to customer tax reporting, withholding, and technology enhancementsQualifications, Skills & AttributesRequired:Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in tax with strong focus on tax treatment and impact to customers from investment activities, preferably in financial services, brokerage firms, asset management, Big 4 public accounting, or tax advisoryBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field;
