About the role
Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-established secondary school in Rochdale to recruit an experienced and dedicated Pastoral Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual who is committed to supporting young people, promoting positive behaviour, and helping students overcome barriers to learning.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students' wellbeing, attendance, engagement, and behaviour, working closely with teaching staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure students achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Support the school's behaviour and pastoral systems across designated year groups.
Build positive relationships with students to promote engagement, attendance, and achievement.
Manage behaviour incidents effectively, using proven de-escalation techniques and restorative approaches.
Provide one-to-one and small group support for students requiring additional pastoral intervention.
Work closely with teachers and senior leaders to identify and support vulnerable or at-risk students.
Monitor student welfare, attendance, punctuality, and behaviour records.
Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Previous experience working in a pastoral, behaviour, inclusion, or safeguarding role within a secondary school setting.
A proven track record of behaviour management and successful use of de-escalation techniques.
The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Experience supporting young people with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
The confidence to challenge inappropriate behaviour while maintaining positive relationships.
A genuine passion for supporting the educational and personal development of young people.
