About the role

Due to continued growth, we are currently recruiting a junior Property Solicitor to join our Housing Development team based in our London office (with flexible hybrid-working).

The Housing Development team act for large housing associations and local authorities, advising on all aspects of land acquisition, development and regeneration, via land-led and package deals, S106 acquisitions and joint ventures aimed at housing delivery.

We work on some of the largest and most high-profile housing development schemes in London and the South-East, as well as smaller and rural housing developments which are essential to local communities.

Bevan Brittan has strong recognition in the independent legal directories, including Chambers & Partners and Legal 500. In both guides, we are consistently ranked in the top tier for our practices across the UK, with many individuals recognised as leading lawyers.

The Role

This role is a fantastic opportunity to work within a busy, friendly team on a wide range of Property matters, predominantly focussed upon land acquisition and disposal, development and regeneration, across a range of scheme and deal sizes, often working with colleagues in our Construction, Corporate, Governance, Housing Management, Planning, Plot Sales, Public Subsidy and Procurement teams.

The workload will include a mix of standalone deals and other property matters (including smaller land purchases, easements, licences and infrastructure agreements to run alone), as well as working alongside senior lawyers on larger JV and other schemes, assisting with title reporting, document drafting and completions.

We offer a supportive team environment, with an emphasis upon teamwork, knowledge sharing and career development, with a flexible working approach, and regular contact with partners and other senior lawyers.

What we are looking for from you

The successful applicant will possess the following skills, which are key to the role:

  • Previous experience in a Property-related practice area (not necessarily housing)
  • An interest in developing as a Property lawyer and the necessary skills, in a housing setting
  • Well organised with a keen eye for detail
  • Strong communication skills, with a professional approach to work
  • Confidence in working directly with clients and colleagues in other teams
  • An interest in business development, and developing networking and client management skills
  • An ability to build strong interpersonal relationships
  • An aptitude for drafting and legal analysis
  • A willingness to develop an understanding of related legal areas, including Construction and Planning
  • A team player with a keenness to work collaboratively with colleagues at junior and senior levels
  • A practical and commercial, "can do" approach to problem solving
  • An interest in the social housing sector and the wider public sector
