About the role

Contracts Manager: Water / Utilities

Manchester / North West

If you are an experienced Contracts Manager within water or utilities and you want a role where you can genuinely take ownership of a region, this is worth a conversation.

The opportunity is with a well-established Tier 1 civil engineering contractor with a strong pipeline of work across the North West. You will be overseeing multiple water infrastructure projects across Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire, with responsibility for delivery, commercial performance, teams and client relationships.

This is not a role where you are expected to sit behind a desk and simply report numbers. You will be given real operational responsibility, working closely with project teams and senior management to make sure schemes are properly resourced, commercially controlled and delivered safely and efficiently.

You will be involved in:

  • Overseeing several live water infrastructure projects
  • Leading and supporting Project Managers, Site Agents and operational teams
  • Managing programme, resources, commercial performance and risk
  • Reviewing costs, forecasts and CVRs
  • Working closely with the client and maintaining strong relationships
  • Supporting tender handovers and pre-start activity
  • Driving project performance and identifying opportunities to improve margin and delivery
  • Ensuring the right people are in place across each project
  • Providing leadership across SHEQ, design and operational delivery

The ideal person will already have a strong background in civil engineering and water/utilities, with experience managing multiple projects and teams. You will need good commercial awareness, strong knowledge of NEC contracts and the confidence to challenge, lead and make decisions.

This would suit someone who enjoys having genuine ownership, likes being close to the delivery side of the business and wants to join a contractor with long-term secured work and clear opportunities to progress.

Why consider it?

Alongside a salary of up to £90,000, the package includes a company car/car allowance, pension, private medical, life assurance and 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.

More importantly, you’d be joining a contractor with a strong pipeline of secured infrastructure work and long-term framework opportunities. There is a real emphasis on developing and promoting people internally, with leadership and management training, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to build a longer-term career rather than simply moving from one project to the next.
