Context

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our growing engineering team in London. This position within our engineering team will suit a committed and ambitious engineer who can demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic high-performance team.The post-holder will be part of a growing team of UK engineers delivering projects for a diverse portfolio of UK clients.


Missions/Main Duties

The Engineering Manager will be accountable for the technical assurance of allocated projects ensuring:Technical co-ordination and integration of multi-discipline design inputs through Full project life-cycle through design and implementation to operationProject requirements and are fully metTechnically sound design solutions are produced, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budgetConstructability, value for money, and innovation are considered at all stagesCompliance with all relevant technical standardsAdvice and guidance is provided for staff, and professional development is actively pursuedMain DutiesWorking in collaboration with our designers and contract partners, the Engineering Manager will be involved in a variety of tasks such as:Produce and manage the Engineering Management Plan for allocated projectsImplement systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislationAssess and monitor the competence of Engineers working on projects and appoint discipline engineers within the functional discipline and provide functional guidance, direction and briefing.Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects and ensure that all design and construction contracts include reference to appropriate Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards applicable to their discipline.Maintain a robust IDC process and chair design integration IDR and IDC reviewsManagement of Engineering schedules and deliverablesUndertake standards briefingsIdentify and document any derogations / non-compliancesManage technical change through design developmentApply relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to all projects and check whether the environmental aspects of all projects are managed in accordance with Environmental Policy.Advise project and programme management in respect of all construction activities, testing and commissioning, and site supervision. Monitor whether the design and construction elements meet the requirements of legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations.Develop effective concept and detailed design solutions that are consistent with the project briefImplement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirementsLiaise with clients and ensure their requirements are effectively communicated to the teamReview engineering designs, calculations, and drawingsReview contract documents and scheme cost estimatesReview technical documents and reports and assist in the preparation of expressions of interest and tendersEnsure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM RegulationsSupervise team members including all engineers, senior engineers, senior technicians and assistant and graduate engineersEffective management of and response to project related correspondenceChecks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in its development


Profile/Skills

Experience in a design management role involving engagement with stakeholders on design, including interfacing designers, asset owners / operators and subcontractor designers;Experience on civil engineering or building projects in the UK with railway system interfaces;Experience of line manager responsibility for design / technical managers;Effective communicator, both listening to others and explaining own considerations to seek agreement on what is best for project;Positive approach to teamwork and collaboration, demonstrate leadership and proactiveness with the rest of the project team, including the client and key stakeholders;Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Teams.
