Consultant General Surgery: Upper GI, Day Case Surgery and Cancer

The General Surgery Directorate is looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join their team of 8 UGI consultants, providing elective and emergency services for the population of Gwent across multiple hospital sites within the organisation, including on‑call commitments at the Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will work in close co‑operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high‑quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.

• Maintain and develop subspecialty interests in complement with those of the department alongside the current team.
• Ensure the provision of a first‑class clinical service.
• Provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
• Sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.
• Undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board’s procedures and operating policies.
• Conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Division’s and Health Board’s service plans.
• Maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Medical Division or the Health Board.

Qualifications

• Full registration and licence to practice with the General Medical Council (GMC).
• Membership of the GMC Specialist Register (or equivalent via CESR/European Community Rights), with a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Salary

£114,099 to £166,585 a year, pro rata.
