Site Engineer

The Opportunity We are recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer to join a major commercial construction project in Bristol. This is a long-term freelance opportunity working on a large-scale groundworks and infrastructure package within a busy live construction environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of all engineering and setting out duties across multiple areas of the project including foundations, drainage, roads, externals, ducting, concrete works, and associated civils packages. The Role As Site Engineer, you will be responsible for accurate setting out, surveying, QA, and technical support across the site. You will work closely with site management teams, subcontractors, and operatives to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification. This role would suit someone with strong groundworks and civils experience who is confident managing engineering duties independently on a busy commercial development. Key Responsibilities Carrying out all setting out duties across groundworks and infrastructure packages Setting out for drainage, foundations, roads, kerbing, ducting, and concrete works Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications Maintaining accurate site records and as-built surveys Supporting site management teams with technical and engineering queries Ensuring works are delivered in line with programme and quality requirements Managing QA processes and completing relevant documentation Coordinating with subcontractors and operational teams across site activities Monitoring levels, line, and dimensional accuracy throughout construction works Requirements Previous experience as a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer on groundworks and civils projects Strong knowledge of commercial groundworks and infrastructure packages Ability to work independently and manage engineering duties on site Good communication and organisational skills Strong understanding of QA and surveying procedures Essential Requirements CSCS Card Groundworks and civils experience What’s on Offer 40-week freelance opportunity Major commercial construction project in Bristol Competitive day rate Long-term project continuity Immediate start available
