Veterinary Surgeon
About the role
Are you a dedicated vet who thrives in a compassionate, team-oriented environment?
All the relevant skills, qualifications and experience that a successful applicant will need are listed in the following description.
A growing independent small animal practice is seeking a like-minded professional to join their dynamic team. This role is perfect for someone who values patient care, strong client relationships, and a supportive community spirit.
In this well-established practice, pets, clients, and team wellbeing are the top priorities. The practice offers a unique veterinary environment where 20-minute consultations, blocked emergency slots, and dedicated admin time are standard. This allows vets to thoroughly work up cases, perform additional diagnostics, and build meaningful relationships with clients, ultimately improving clinical outcomes.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Conduct 20-minute consultations and manage blocked emergency slots
- Perform routine surgeries and manage day-to-day cases independently
- Engage in daily team discussions for ongoing case management
- Conduct soft tissue surgeries and orthopaedics, with support from specialists
- Participate in continual professional development and training
Skills and experience:
- Confident in working independently and managing routine surgeries
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Experience in handling complex medical cases is desirable
- Certificate holders in soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, or ophthalmology are highly valued
- Not suitable for new graduates at this stage, ideally a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience is required.
The practice is located in sunny Southampton, with easy motorway access, beautiful beach walks nearby, and the New Forest just 30 minutes away. The working hours are from 9 am to 7 pm, eliminating the need for early starts.
What’s on offer:
- Flexible working patterns from 2 days per week
- 1 in 3 Saturday mornings (9 am–12 pm)
- No OOH
- Competitive salary up to £85k (for cert holders) pro rata depending on experience
- Private healthcare
- CPD and genuine support with development
- Paid overtime or time back in lieu
- RCVS and VDS fees covered
- Friendly, supportive, no-drama workplace
- Strong focus on staff wellbeing with zero tolerance for inappropriate client behaviour
- Regular social events and a genuinely enjoyable team environment
- Additional leave, company events, cycle to work scheme, employee discount, mentoring programme, flexitime, health & wellbeing programme, private medical insurance, and relocation assistance
If you are a vet who enjoys working cases thoroughly, values communication as much as clinical skill, and wants to be part of a supportive, team-focused practice, this role could be the perfect fit for you.
