Design Manager (Mechanical)

Job Description Were looking for an experienced Design Manager (Mechanical) to lead a talented engineering team in a dynamic manufacturing environment based in Derby! Were seeking candidates with experience managing mechanical design teams in machinery manufacturing, capital equipment, automation, or special-purpose machinery.

This is a leadership role where youll oversee design operations, guide the development of innovative machinery, and drive engineering excellence.

This is a Full-Time, Permanent position! What youll be doing Lead and manage the mechanical design team, planning workloads and ensuring deadlines are met Develop and communicate design strategy for new and existing machinery Mentor and motivate engineers, supporting professional development and appraisals Oversee CAD systems and design documentation (SolidWorks, PDM, BOMs) Collaborate with cross-functional teams to agree machine specifications Provide mechanical engineering expertise from concept to commissioning Ensure designs are high-quality, cost-effective, safe, and manufacturable Hours Flexible Monday-Friday day shifts (38 hours per week) Flexible start times and early finish options are available Pay £60,000
- £65,000 per annum (Depending on Experience) Skills/Experience Required A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or equivalent experience Ideally at least 5 years experience managing a mechanical design team in a machinery or engineered manufacturing environment Hands-on experience as a design engineer using SolidWorks (and PDM) Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing methods Experience leading and developing a team of engineers Knowledge of regulatory standards and machinery safety requirements Excellent organisation, project management, and communication skills Benefits 33 days holiday (including bank holidays) Company pension scheme Competitive salary Free on-site parking Flexible day shifts with no weekend work Modern, well-equipped facilities Monthly prize draws Supportive, collaborative team environment Essential All applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK (sponsorship not provided).
