Estimating Manager

1st Step Solutions are supporting a building services engineering company who have an opportunity for an EstimatingManager based in Grays, Essex.Role OverviewOur client is seeking an experienced EstimatingManager to lead and develop their estimating function. This senior role will be responsible for managing the full tendering process, building a high-performing estimating team, and driving profitable growth across mechanical and electrical projects.Key ResponsibilitiesLead, mentor, and develop the estimating teamSet estimating strategy aligned with company growth objectivesImplement best practice processes and systemsWork closely with senior management on pipeline planningOversee all MEP tenders from enquiry through to submissionReview specifications, drawings, and contract documentsEnsure accurate take-offs and pricing of labour, plant, and materialsDevelop competitive yet commercially sound bid strategiesManage risk and opportunity assessments on all bidsAttend pre-tender meetings and client interviewsBuild strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chainNegotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure best valueSupport commercial team during contract award and handoverAssist in value engineering and cost-saving initiativesMaintain and improve estimating software and databasesTrack tender success rates and provide performance reportsMaintain cost data and benchmarking systemsSkills & Experience RequiredProven experience in a senior estimating role within MEP / building servicesStrong technical knowledge of mechanical & electrical systemsTrack record of winning projects in commercial, residential, or industrial sectorsExcellent commercial awarenessStrong leadership and people management skillsAbility to manage multiple bids under tight deadlinesAdvanced Excel and estimating software experienceExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDesirableHNC/HND or degree in Building Services, Engineering, or Quantity SurveyingProfessional membership (CIBSE, RICS, etc.)Experience implementing estimating systems and proceduresKnowledge of NEC & JCT contractsPackageCompetitive salaryPerformance-related bonusCompany car / allowancePension schemeCareer progression opportunitiesPrivate health careJob type:PermTown/City:GraysCounty:EssexDiscipline:Supervision & TechnicalJob ref:LB-21Post Date:11. 08. 2026
